SFiB News
Syrian Friends in Britain has established a nice tradition over the past 18 months or so... In the run-up to Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, as well as at the Festive Season leading to Christmas and the New Year, we have got into the habit of sending out a nice card to all our Members.. On each of those occasions, we have tasked Hala Jundi, one of our artistically talented Members, to design a card for each of these occasions, and the results have been delightful.. The cards were professionally printed, and posted ahead of each occasion, to our faithful Members, who loved the vibrant colours and the delicate designs, and many have commented on the professional look of the cards... Everyone said how pleasantly surprised they were when they received those cards, which can be viewed on our website, as each was posted in the relevant article describing the events held to celebrate those occasions.
However, this time, we decided to do something different, because we wanted to get everyone involved in the process...
So, as you will remember, a few weeks ago we launched a competition for our young Members to design our next Eid Card.. We decided to split the entries into two groups: one for children under the age of 12, and one for youngsters from 12 to 18 years. By the set deadline, we had received 11 entries: 5 from youngsters aged between 12 and 18 years, and 6 from youngsters under 12 years.
It was quite obvious that the contestants have put in a great deal of effort into the design and execution of their entries. Each of these designs is a winner in its own right, but, sadly, only one design from each category can be officially announced as a winner...
Each of the Judges was asked to score the entries independently and anonymously, and the scores were totted up to determine the winner in each of the two categories...
So, we proudly present to you all the entries in the two categories of this competition... See what you think, and let us know if you agree with our choice of winners...
First, in the 'Under-12 Category', we had six excellent entries, and here they are:
Starting with our youngest competitor, Ghaleb Abdulrazak is only 5 years old, and this is his entry..

Noor Hakim, who is 7, sent in this design...

Then, Samar Issa, who is 8, came up with this as her entry...

Zena Jesry, who is also 8, sent in this entry..

And Maya Abdulrazak, who is 10, contributed to the competition with this design...

Leen Al-Mohammad, who is 11, sent in this very patriotic entry...

And...
The Winner in this Group is....
Noor Hakim!.....
Congratulations, and well-done, Noor!... Excellent work!..
As for the '12 to 18' Category', we received five fantastic entries. Here they are:
Dana Kahaleh, who is 12, took part in the competition with this entry:

And Judy Hakim, who is also 12, produced this colourful design...

Abdulrahman Al-Mohammad, who is 13, produced this design...

Faysal Tayan, who is 15, came up with this design...

And Khalid Tayan, Faysal's 17-year-old brother, submitted this entry...

And...
in this category, the Winner is.....
Abdulrahman Al-Mohammad!....
Congratulations to Abdulrahman, and well done for an excellent effort...
So, our sincere congratulations to the two worthy winners... This was indeed a very tight competition, and it was very difficult to choose between the various entries in the two categories.. a testament to the talent and hard work of our young Members..
The two winning entries will be printed professionally, and the two card designs will soon be on their way to our Members... but before the winning entries could be printed, we will have to make some minor adjustments to comply with the specifications set by the printing firm, and to incorporate our Society's logo..
But, in all honesty, we really think that each of these designs is a true winner... Well done, everyone!...
