Our Members, friends, and supporters have come to expect more and more from their Society... and as ever, we, as Council Officers, strive to make sure that they are not disappointed...
For our Father's Day Dish Party, we wanted to have a day for the whole family.. We wanted a venue that could provide us with a pleasant and welcoming environment, with facilities that would suit all ages and all tastes... We wanted a spacious hall to accommodate the expected large number of guests, outdoor playing facilities for the younger children, sports facilities for the youths, a nice quiet room for people to sit and chat and catch up on each other's news, and, considering it is the World Cup, another room where those interested, can sit and watch the football... and if all that was not hard enough, we also wanted good weather!...
Well, somehow, we managed it all!.. Lena and Bachar found an excellent venue just outside Nottingham, with all the facilities that we could ever want: A nice, shiny new hall, a soft play area with swings and climbing frames for the children, a basketball and a football ground, a large green area, and, of course, a special football viewing room for the die-hard football enthusiasts!... Fawaz and Mounir, with technical help from our ever-reliable Member and dear friend Ghazwan, managed to rig up a TV receiver, and connected it to a projector that Samera provided. Thanks to their efforts, the football match was available on a large screen for all those who wanted to watch!.. And to top it all, we were blessed with excellent weather!..
Guests started arriving, and the hall was soon buzzing with activity.. We were delighted to meet a large number of friends and Members, and were particularly happy to see a substantial number of new faces, who have heard about our activities, but have not, until Saturday, attended any..
As the guests continued to arrive, the amazing spread of fantastic food started to take shape.. As usual, the variety and the quality of the food on offer were simply outstanding!.. When the buffet was announced open, guests flocked to sample the delights that were on offer. And since the various dishes met the exacting and uncompromising standards of our guests, it was to nobody's surprise that the excellent food was quickly cleared!..
Our guests, of all ages, took advantage of the lovely weather... Kids were out on the swings and the ropes and the climbing frames, while the older youths were on the sports ground, competing in quickly assembled teams in basketball and football. A short while later, various other competitions took place, from 'Tug of War', to Sack Races, and from 'Egg and Spoon' races to skipping competitions, and small prizes were handed to the winners in each competition.
Of course, this Dish Party was meant to be a celebration of Father's Day. So, as part of the celebration, we presented two first-time Dads, Assem and Sami, with framed pictures of the Dads and their respective babies, courtesy of the SFiB... Another first-time Dad, Hani, was unable to attend, but his framed photo will be handed to him at our next activity...
The Dish Party was also an opportunity to celebrate a few other happy occasions: The first was the graduation of Omar Jundi.. or perhaps I should say 'Dr Omar Jundi'... Omar has just got the results of his finals, and he is now a proper, fully-fledged, bona fide doctor!.. Omar qualified from Leeds University, and will start work in August.. Congratulations and well done!... We are all very proud of you, and we all wish you a bright and productive future..
The second happy occasion was the Birthday of Heba, our Activities and Social Affairs Officer... Happy Birthday, and Many Happy Returns, Heba... We all hope that you have a joyful and prosperous year, full of happiness, good health, and contentment...
And the third happy occasion was the Birthday of Judy Othman, the beautiful daughter of Mohannad and Salma, who will be one on 21st June. We wish her a happy and prosperous life, and may she continue to bring happiness and laughter to her parents, family and friends...
The Father's Day Dish Party was another great event... We all had a great time, and we all enjoyed the company of old friends, and made some new ones as well.. We look forwards, with great anticipation, to our next event...
