Now.. Hands up anyone who made a New Year's Resolution to lose weight and improve fitness!... and hands up all those who have forgotten about it by January 2nd!...
Well.. I thought so!...
Bearing that in mind, we at SFiB decided to back words with actions..
We decided to organize a 'Health and Fitness Day'.. So, we contacted a pair of fitness instructors, Heba and Youssuf, from 'STU:FIT', who managed to plan a day of activities for our Members.. We booked a nice big venue, with ample space, to allow our Members and guests to split into teams and groups, each taking part in an activity that suited them...
After a bit of introductions and a light warm-up, our Members got involved in a variety of lighthearted fitness activities and competitions.. from softball tick to badminton, sack and egg-and-spoon relay races, and from skipping to tug-of-war... The two fitness instructors, ably helped by Mounir, managed to motivate the crowd to take part in the fun-filled fitness activities... (Come to think of it, now I realize why Mounir volunteered for that task: the perfect excuse to stay away from any strenuous activities!...)
Two tug-of-war competitions took place.. One for the Juniors, and one for the Oldies!... The participants were split into teams of five, and a play-off determined who played for the top two spots.. The winners of each group received a commemorative prize, in recognition of their efforts...
The calorie-burning activities were put on hold for a short break, to allow the guests to sample the healthy dishes that were lovingly and skilfully prepared by our Members and guests.. The dazzling spread of delicious dishes was as impressive as ever.. You would never believe that all the dishes on display were, actually, healthy options.. Our Members and guests have proven that 'healthy' can still be 'delicious'!...
The Health and Fitness Day was a success on many levels.. We demonstrated that health and fitness can be good fun.. We learnt that healthy food can be every bit as delicious as the not-so-healthy alternative.. Most importantly, we learnt that our Members are health-conscious, and would appreciate similar activities in the future..
I have no doubt that the SFiB will be doing this again before too long.. so watch the space!...
