Welcome to the 'Syrian Friends in Britain' Website...

Our Society was born on 18th December 2008, when a group of like-minded and widely representative individuals, based in the Midlands, the North West, and Yorkshire, came together to form a Society for the Syrian Community in Britain. The name we chose for the new Society was 'The Syrian Society in Britain'. Although our aim was to create a forum for the Syrian Community in Britain, we did not aim to be seen as the 'Official' representative of the Syrian Community in Britain. Therefore, and in response to concerns expressed by the Syrian Embassy, we decided, in November 2009, to change our name to

Our aim was to set up a structure that is founded on solid grounds, a structure that will withstand the challenges ahead, and meet the aspirations of its members. We wanted to set up a Society that is non-political and non-denominational... A unique and distinguished Society that will represent your interests... A Society that will encompass all people of Syrian descent living in Britain, and act as a pivot for the Syrian Community in Britain, in all its diversity...
